  8.  Status         Status, by Bead Boutique Software( BBSW), 
  9.                 is a Mac CPU MultiTask 
  10.                 Monitor, password protected screen saver, text and 
  11.                 picture file viewer and color text editor. The self 
  12.                 extracting archive is ~ 200k in size and can be 
  13.                 downloaded through America On Line from the Zedcor 
  14.                 Shareware section, or from the University of Michigan 
  15.                 FTP file service, Shareware section. The application 
  16.                 can be opened 10 times in demo mode. You can call 
  17.                 BBSW Monday thru Friday between 2 and 8 pm Eastern 
  18.                 Time to pay the $19 shareware fee (using Visa or 
  19.                 Master Card). For the fee, you get a unique registration 
  20.                 code that will allow you to register the demo version 
  21.                 and disable the "PLEASE REGISTER" dialog messages.

  25.     Monitor     The Macintosh can be run as a reliable, multi-tasking 
  26.                 computer if you use applications that have been 
  27.                 designed to run in a multitasking environment. The 
  28.                 problem is, until now you could not identify those 
  29.                 applications that were multi-tasking aware! Status 
  30.                 shows you which applications are multi-tasking aware 
  31.                 by displaying the remaining free CPU cycles (Sometimes 
  32.                 called free "Ticks" or free "Null Events") that 
  33.                 are left for other applications to use. Make an 
  34.                 Alias to Status and place it in your System's Start 
  35.                 Up Items folder to launch this application each 
  36.                 time you start up your computer. The bar chart shows 
  37.                 how active your CPU is, doing background tasks. 
  38.                 The number of free ticks are sampled for one second 
  39.                 once every 10 second? The last free ticks sample 
  40.                 is displayed as a number between 0 and 60 just below 
  41.                 and to the right of the bar chart.

  43.     File Viewer
  44.     &Text Editor Status will open,display and/or print simple or 
  45.                 complex (style/color) text, or PICT files. TEXT 
  46.                 or PICT files can be opened using Drag and Drop 
  47.                 methods from the finder or using a standard "Open..." 
  48.                 Dialog technique. Style/color text documents can 
  49.                 be created up to 16 pages in length. Simple "Fade 
  50.                 to Black" screen saver and Password "Screen Lock" 
  51.                 features are also included.

  53.  Extras         We have included several small applications that demonstrate 
  54.                 good background tasking capability. Cray is a 20k 
  55.                 desk accessory that samples the image on the right

  63.                 side of screen and displays it in a magnifiable 
  64.                 window. Cray then scrolls down the image in foreground 
  65.                 or background modes. Hyper Magnifier, another 20k 
  66.                 DA, samples random locations on your screen and 
  67.                 displays them in a Magifiable window. After running 
  68.                 Status, you will be able to copy and run as many 
  69.                 copies of these applications as you wish. Notice 
  70.                 that when running in the background, they still 
  71.                 hand back the Free Ticks for the operating system 
  72.                 to allocate to other applications.

  74.                 Now run your own favorite applications and see how 
  75.                 well they do at handing back Null Events to the 
  76.                 operating system. If Status indicates any of your 
  77.                 applications are "CPU HOGS", contact the developer 
  78.                 of that application and tell them to clean up their 
  79.                 code! Better yet, tell them to download their own 
  80.                 copy of Status so that it will inform them immediately 
  81.                 when they have solved the problem.
